A grand day out

It was Mother’s Day yesterday in the UK so I decided to celebrate it here in France too and took mum out for a picnic.

Ok…ok…it wasn’t MY decision. Not exactly. It was Uncle Hugh’s – but I had been transmitting thought-waves his way. I’d been thinking really hard, “Take mum out somewhere nice” because they’d not done anything together for a while and mum seemed a bit maudlin.

Anyway, I knew something was going on because mum was packing plates and knives & forks and stuff and so I got all giddy because I reckoned it was going to be a PICNIC and when there’s a PICNIC mum sometimes stops being strict and she lets Uncle Hugh give me titbits. So I ran round and round in a hyper way, and mum called me “Crazy Dog” and blamed it on the Haribo Jellies that Uncle Hugh had given me the night before.

Then we all piled into the car and I was a bit miffed ‘cause when Uncle Hugh is in the car with mum, I’m relegated to the back seat. I don’t like the back seat ‘cause once mum had to brake really quickly for a bad French motorist and I flew off the seat and shot under the passenger seat and bumped my head. Now mum always puts my bed on the back seat (for “padding”) and makes Uncle Hugh put his passenger seat right back, so I can’t slip under it, then she puts a pillow in the space between the drivers seat and the back seat. Bloody palaver. If she’d just buy one of those posh doggy safety seats, it’d do the trick. But mum’s skint at the moment. But she wasn’t once…..I’m digressing.

Then we set off.

We ended up in this lovely place, where we went for a long walk by the side of a canal, and there were loads of new smells. I get excited about new places because there’s always new stuff to sniff.

Then we had to find mum somewhere to pee. She found a big bush.

Then we found this picnic spot and there was a boat called Henri. Honest. We all laughed. Here it is:

It was a great picnic. I found some really old bread and meat that had been left by another picnic, some time ago judging by the smell of the meat – mum said “DROP!” in her Alpha Bitch voice. I swallowed.

There were some ducks too, but they were scolding me in a very strange language, and it wasn’t French, they were going “NYAKNYAKNYAKNYAKNYAK”. Naughty little buggers. I would have given them the finger if I had one.

On the way back mum got a bit lost but she's glad she did because she found a lovely little village, where we had a stroll. It was great. There were tons of dog poo on the pavements. Mum stood in some and said "Shit!". Quite appropriate n'est-ce pas?

Here's that lovely little village with the poo:

Here’s a butt shot for my lady fans – I’m not keen on water – I was a tad wary.

Here’s me waiting for titbits.

Here’s another gratuitous butt shot.

Yep, it was a grand day out

I can picture the palaver of packing up the car for a picnic with you along Henry - why? Because we do it too - although the girls do have their lookout seats in the back of my car but we also have to dig out the stakes that Mr FF bangs into the ground when we reach the picnic site and we can never find them easily - the ones the girls get attached to so they don't run off (I don't know why - it's always a hunt around and in theory they should always be in the boot)

It sounds like a fabulous day out. Well done on the 'swallow' - hope your tum was alright today.

As for your mum - sorry to hear she has been a bit maudlin.Give her a big kiss.

Oh - I do love a grand day out! Thanks for those butt shots - always appreciated! Hope the walk pepped your mum up a bit...

Hi Henry - I wish I'd listen to my lady like you do Mum. I found something worth swallowing yesterday, even if my lady yelled "out" at me, and, guess what. I had to get them out of bed twice last night to go throw up in the backyard. I don't think they were very happy with me. :( KC

PS Thanks for posting the pics of your picnic though. I heard a big sigh from my lady.

Hi Henri? sorry Henry, glad you found that boat what fun. Picnics are just the best fun eh!. Years ago a dog who lived with me took the last sandwich out of the hand of a picnic person!!!...oh was I in big trouble? YES..they got very very cross...sad gits eh!!

Love to Mum, and hugs to you Blu xx

Looked like "tidbits" were teasing Henry, (I guess that's 'Henri' while in France?) though there used to be several small animals who used to 'tease' the Kestral, and the redtail here, not to mention two cats and several dogs.

Shouldn't ever poke an animal, or tease it, I'm thinking.

Your mum's Alpha Bitch voice, saying "DROP!" - NEVER gets old. Makes me laugh every time, especially because you swallow.

I'll give those damn ducks the finger for you. No worries, Henry.

The village is beautiful. Nothing like that where I live. *sigh*

Glad you all had a pleasant day!

Sounds like a lovely day! Your gratuitous butt shots cracked me up.

Oh, and I suggest that when Mum shouts 'drop!' you do. The other day, Sundance was eating a piece of paper towel (kitchen roll, I think you call it) and I hollered 'drop!' He swallowed. And today, I had to pull 6 inches of kitchen roll out his butt! ICK!

Looks like you had a fabulous day out, Henry! And what a lovely village you and your mum stumbled upon. Have a fabulous day!!

It sounds like you gave your mum a fabulous day, Henry! I must say you are looking very well groomed over there. Did the meat you found sit well in your stomach? Very interesting to see how you've got the timing down well to swallow before your mum makes you drop it. :)

Henry - what a lovely way to spend Mother's Day. I am lucky that I never have to sit in the backseat, because I always sit on a lap in the front. I know that this is dangerous and that I could be killed if we ever hit anything, but I am a big baby when it comes to car rides, so I cry until I get my way. I too love picnics, but Mom never takes me on any, so consider yourself lucky.

I love it that your mum has to find a bush to pee near - As I am always having to do that - Public loos in the UK not being quite as they once were - i.e. available!

How nice of you to take your mum for a picnic, Henri - I hope you didn't get much of your doggy hair in the sandwiches?! x

What a lovely day out, H and fantastic photos. You do live in a really beautiful country.

I remember going behind a bush a few years ago. That was at Feltham! Any port in a storm as my mum says.

Would love to have a picnic again. xxxxx

Hi Henry

What a lovely day you had and what a great way to celebrate Mother's Day. I had to put up with sitting under the table in the Golf Club but at least I kept the little man quiet and happy!

We would love a picnic - wish we had the lovely weather you have and also such a lovely place to visit - the photos are great - that village looks amazing.

Henry, indeed a grand day out. Love your mum's pics, made me want to go there myself.

And do keep an eye on those ducks, tricky buggers and they need to be watched carefully...:)

Ruby - it was lovely:)

FFancy - you humans should be more organised. If I could talk I would tell mum "a place for everything and everything in it's place". She's always searching for something. Usually her car keys. My tum is fine. Us dogs can cope with a bit more bacteria than you lot. Mum's fine too xxx

Lady Fi - I think the butt shots are fab. I could make it my speciality:)

KC - ever heard the saying "sick as a dog"? I've said it before, it's what we do best:)

Blu - I'm laughing my paws off visualising that person's face as they lost their sarnie. Yes, very sad:D My mum likes that last photo too. She thinks it is very 'me':)

Boneman - no, teasing animals can be bad for your health. But I don't bite:)

CSquared - mum's Alpha Bitch voice is stern, but I can't stop myself when there's something tasty in my mouth. However, when it really matters. I listen. Honest. The village is typical of places round these parts. It has it's ups and downs. The downside is when mum forgets to buy milk on a Saturday. Nothing's open again until Tuesday xxx

Diane - (Henry in a fit of the giggles - sorry, he can't talk. He loves toilet humour too much).....yep, I get that. Us dogs can't resist kitchen roll. What IS it about that stuff? It's the only thing I rip to shreds if I find it anywhere.

Kathryn - it was a lovely day:)

Bindu - my timing is excellent. Well practised:)

Stubby my man - I would sit on mum's knee but she's always the one doing the driving. Don't tell anyone, but when I was a teeny tiny pup, I sat on her knee when she WAS driving. Normally Uncle Hugh isn't in the car with us so I have the passenger seat or the passenger footwell. When I was teeny tiny, I spent so much time with mum in the car I used to think it was my second home:)

A Woman of NI - mum's always having to find bushes to pee behind because we walk a lot in the countryside and when there are any public loos they are usually horrid over here in France, and make her gag!

Jennysmith - mum's a regular bush goer. As I said to Woman of NI, we are usually out in the country. A bush, a boulder, whatever, and she's mastered the art of peeing fast. She usually tells me not to watch her. She can't pee if anyone's watching her:) Too much detail????

Blogdog - the weather has been great lately but I notice this morning that it looks miserable. To be honest, I prefer it a bit cooler than this:)

Lisa - it is lovely in these parts. We are lucky. It may not last!

Juliet - I do too, hugs back:)

Pies - hello, thanks for dropping by. I think in France that might be the day they celebrate it too, so my mum can do it twice:)

Irish - ducks aren't as thick as they make themselves out to be;)

Henry you are double lucky today. I am jealous. I have my very own pontoon boat butt it isn't named after ME.
Great photos. It will soon be warm enough for us to picnic... on my boat. I love to wade in the lake. I just don't like it when I get out were my feet don't touch.
I hope my wimmen don't see your butt shots. They may begin to think of YOU as a studmuffin too. I would not be happy about that. I want to be their one and only. Maybe I should get some butt shots and send to them.
I do have a very much grrreat butt shot of my dad though. He hates it when mom posts that one. I love it though. he he he
I might put it at "the end" of my Vacula story. If there ever is an end to it, that is.
